This is a soldier’s diary. A story, told from the frontline in Afghanistan. Everything you read is real.

It tells the story of the men of checkpoint ‘Qudrat’, 3 Para, or as they named themselves –“the lost tribe”.

The 353 Trust has been given permission to share this, so you can recognise the importance of what the young men and women of this country have achieved, and to help raise money for the injured and the families of the fallen.

Hello everyone

Today is the 30/10/10 that BFPO number seems to be the one to use for e-blueys as they come the next day so all good.

Your jokes were very funny dad, god knows where you get them from. Been a hard couple of days.

We have got the engineers here building better protection because the lunatics keep smashing the CP from about 800m away.

Funny because 6 guns just go over the wall and they soon bug out lol. So we got to provide protection for the engineers and they only work at night so have to look after them and patrol in the day.

Anyway I made chips the other day. Yes me chips lol. Got some potatoes off the farmer and fried them in lard MEGA lol.

Got a dog here, I told you about the day we adopted her – she is called shit bag. She is nuts comes out on every patrol.

She is nuts stayed for the whole contact the other day, which was funny. Taught her to sit and give paw, you give her a biscuit and she runs out and stashes it somewhere lol. There are dogs everywhere.

Anyways, everything is okay here. Thinking of you all

love you

About The Diary

This is the real diary of a soldier who fought on the frontline in Afghanistan. In his own words, Pte.C.Burtenshaw 3011 6964 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, writes a brutally honest account of his experiences, not just as his therapy, but for his children.

The Diary Of My Afghanistan Tour 2010/2011, portrays the human element of the Afghanistan conflict to help those back home understand, that ‘as much as we love of our jobs and being out here, we are all of us, still human.’

353 is not a number

It is a person. It is inspired by Conrad Lewis. Who became the 353rd soldier in the theatre of Afghanistan to give up everything for what he believed in.

353 is a charitable trust with the aim of helping members of the military community by delivering long-term support to a variety of charities, soldiers and their families. To make as big a difference as possible through partnerships with other organisations. This enables us to achieve our objective of providing a career and income within 353 for those affected by military conflict.
