26th October
Nothing to report on the 25th, today as on the 24th the Mastiff convoy came again to head east down the Neb, this time I was up in the super sanger, like and over watch position. 1 Platoon A Company was with us for this patrol, more fire support, as well as the Engineer’s as there were reports of IED’s on route. I’d been on stag since 0300, the patrol pushed out at 0345, I was tired but alert for the lads on the ground, and I had to be because you’re like a vast overview of the battlefield. ‘CONTACT’ at 0700 from the same place as on the 24th, I’m on the PRR to the lads on the ground and bring them onto where I think the enemy is, turns out I was right as Waldo starts to PID enemy and the patrol smashes them.
Spotted two pax dicking 1 Platoon, so I radio in to them and 10 minutes later they were also in a fire fight from that area, our MFC (Mortar Fire Controller), J……., calls in the 81 mm into that area, they had no chance really. Throughout all this the Engineers were clearing an IED on the Neb. It’s been a long day and I’m fucked, terry had a pop at the super sanger about 2050, so a sent a ton of link from the GPMG back to the area as a good will gesture! As well as J…… smashing 61 mm mortars at them as well.
Anyways I’m off to bed, I got relieved off the super sanger at 2145, so that was a good 18 hours up there and I just want to get some sleep in the doss bag now.
