17th January

Well we went on patrol into W6H today, and we were nearly a kilometer into it and we were making our way across an open field when ‘BANG’, ‘POP’ ‘CRACK’, a shot rang out and everyman took a knee and looked around as that came fucking close. ‘MAN DOWN!!!’, G got hit. F’s and T ran over to him to see and assess how he was, and after a few seconds he got up and he was fine. God was on his side today! He was dragged into cover and assessed further whilst the rest of us were providing cover, J saw a bloke poking his head out of a murder hole not 15m from our position so he smashed it with the shotgun, the rest of us were looking further into depth and after taking a few shots at blokes that were in positions they should have not have been all was clear on the contact front, now we had to get G back.

G was stripped of his kit whilst in cover and was assessed to have no external bleeding, how the fuck that happened we all had no idea as he just got shot, so we all doubled back, I ran behind G as he had no armor on, so he had some rear protection and F’s had him next to him guiding him back in.

When we got back, and all of us were in clip from the double, we all looked at his kit whilst he was being checked over by T in the Med room. We found a 7.62 round lodged in the side of the front plate of his body armor, not 2cm thick, and the round hit the side of it, if it 1cm either way he would have had a chest wound or a possible ricochet that could have gone anywhere, ‘YOU LUCKY BASTARD’, was about the end of it. He went down as Cat C and will be out of here in 24 hours and back to Bastion to get checked over. To be fair after getting shot I think a decent hot meal and a bed for the night is the least you could get offered.

But it finally happened and I’ve said from the fucking start that this fucker was getting closer and closer and today he hit a mark, G has a fucking guardian angel out here I swear it, but next time it will be this sharp shooting fucker that takes a round and we won’t fucking miss if we get our chance!
